Family and Youth Casting Call – Event and Volunteer Information
The Event
On Saturday, June 1 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, the Family & Youth Casting Call will take place in Anacostia Park located at 1900 Anacostia Drive SE. Youth can learn to fish, take a tour of the Aquatic Resources Education Center, and participate in numerous other environmental education activities led by DOEE’s Fisheries & Wildlife Division and their partners. DOEE will provide the fishing equipment and bait, and experienced anglers from partnering organizations will provide instruction in basic fishing techniques. Parents are urged to register for the hour of fishing they prefer since equipment is limited. Registration will open May 1. To learn more and to register visit: www.doee.dc.gov/arec
Volunteers Wanted
Volunteers are key to the success of the annual Family & Youth Casting Call event. Without volunteers this event would never have been such a success for the past 15 years! This year the event will take place in Anacostia Park on June 1 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Volunteers are needed to assist with the fishing station and may be asked to check in/out rods, help bait hooks, distribute rods, repair rods/reels, teach casting, monitor safe angling practices, and remove fish from hooks to return to the water. Volunteers are also needed to help set up and break down the event. If you are interested in volunteering for half a day or a full day, please register here and we will be in touch with you soon with more details! Full day volunteers will be provided lunch! Thank you for your assistance!
